Streaming Video Alliance Continues to Gain Momentum, Shape Future of Online Video – Industry Leaders Converge in Denver This Week
SVA Members Convene at Charter Communications’ Technology Center to Share Vision of Streaming Video and Welcome New Members, Including Sky and Time Warner Cable
DENVER, CO — September 1, 2015 — The Streaming Video Alliance (SVA), a newly formed industry forum comprised of leading companies from the online video ecosystem, is holding its quarterly invitation-only member meeting today in Denver. Charter Communications is hosting the meeting at the Charter Technology and Engineering Center (CTEC). The growing SVA membership, which includes industry leaders from across the ecosystem, will continue their work to define the open architecture for streaming, establish best practices and promote their vision for the future of streaming that will allow online video to flourish.
Consumer demand for online video is exploding and will only continue to increase with the emergence of new streaming technologies, the proliferation of mobile devices and the accelerating pace of newly launched online content. By 2019, online video will make up 80 percent of the world’s Internet traffic, according to a recent report by Cisco. The report also states that an individual would spend over five million years watching the amount of video that will cross global IP networks every month in 2019. To address this industry transformation, leaders across the online video ecosystem must work together to develop an open architecture that will create better, faster digital experiences for today’s connected consumers.

Today’s General Member meetings and Working Group sessions will cover a wide scope of topics, including:
- Keynote address from Jay Rolls, CTO at Charter Communications and SVA Board Member. Rolls has more than 25 years of industry experience and serves as a Board member on the Alliance to help lead the initiative to create an open architecture across the ecosystem.
- Welcoming new Alliance members. During the meeting, the Alliance will welcome Beamr, CableLabs, Cedexis, Conviva, Irdeto, NeuLion, Nominum, Sky and Time Warner Cable as new members. Sky and Time Warner Cable will also be joining as SVA Board Members.
- Working Groups progress reports and breakout sessions. Following the general member meeting, working groups will break out into individual sessions to continue their collaboration in real-time. For example, the Open Caching Working Group, which launched earlier this year, will use this meeting to continue work on functional requirements.
- Presentation of upcoming Alliance initiatives. The SVA will present plans for 2016, providing members with a roadmap of both working group initiatives and meetings in the coming year.

The SVA hosts quarterly member meetings and will be releasing details for the meeting in Q4 2015 and plans for 2016 meetings at today’s event. In addition, the SVA Working Groups meet more frequently to make progress on their individual work streams.
