SVTA7111: Low Latency Survey Report – Directional Insights

This report presents the analysis of survey responses, collected from January 2025 through to July 2025, by the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA) Low Latency Working Group on the perspectives of low-latency streaming. Respondents included a diverse mix of SVTA members and professionals from across the media and technology industry. While participation was self-selected, i.e., respondents chose to complete the survey voluntarily, their collective responses provide directional insights, helping to highlight common priorities, challenges, and opportunities. The survey explores how respondents define latency, their current and target latency levels, and the factors driving the push toward real-time streaming. It highlights protocol usage, cloud vs. on-premises deployment, measurement practices, and perceived barriers. This report steps through each question, analyzes the results, and provides some directional insights for companies tackling the issue of latency in their live streams. The report concludes with the Working Group’s roadmap for developing best practices and proof-of-concept implementations to support scalable, high-quality, low-latency streaming across the industry.
