Problem Statement

Currently, data standards are being published and proposed at a record pace and it takes a village to understand everything that’s out there. There is no easy guide to show what problems these standards solve and how to incorporate them in a practical way.

Project Description

Currently, data standards are being published and proposed at a record pace and it takes a village to understand everything that’s out there. There is no easy guide to show what problems these standards solve and how to incorporate them in a practical way. By exploring the data standards being set by SMPTE, HAND, EIDR, etc. we will further understand how they are used and whether they should be part of a larger global standard. The value in reviewing, reporting on, and creating example implementations of each data standard will help show the industry where the standards are duplicative or complementary. This effort would also help those getting started or needing to enhance their content workflow and lifecycle by providing a repository of kickstart recipes.

(DRAFT) SVTA1072: Identify Published Data Standards and How they are Used

Currently, data standards are being published and proposed at a record pace and it takes a village to understand everything that’s out there. There is no easy guide to show what problems these standards solve and how to incorporate them in a practical way.

Goals and Objectives

Expanding off SVTA1023 with a document that further breaks down the various data standards, how they fit into a content workflow and lifecycle, and a conclusion listing how they play together or not, what gaps might be out there, and what steps the industry should take moving forward. Developing a repository and example site with sample implementations of each data standard or even multiple standards within a typical scenario, along with help documentation. Maintaining project artifacts via ongoing enhancements of the above document, repository, and example site to continue growing the knowledge base. Collaborating with other Metadata WG projects to allow for connecting the dots in this media metadata landscape to create a centralized and cohesive starting point to dive into other topics area projects.
