Why Did Irdeto Join the Streaming Video Technology Alliance?

As a vendor-agnostic provider delivering content security and video streaming solutions and services to the media industry, we joined the Alliance to engage with our peers and customers and discuss emerging issues, share our learnings, and promote best practices. And perhaps most importantly, we saw the need to find common ground for the industry to deliver solutions in a consistent and economical way without compromising quality, reliability or time to market.

What Do You Believe is the Biggest Technical Challenge Facing the Streaming Video Industry the SVTA Can Help Address?

Video streaming is no longer a millennials thing. Video stream has entered the big tent and is now used by people of all ages. It is no longer confined to short video clips or TV series.  Major studio releases and high-profile sporting events now are commonplace on streaming platforms. With more eyeballs, the hours of streaming are exploding, and with more premium content, the need to protect the content increases. But with this success comes the increased attention on costs – the costs to deliver high quality content reliably, to scale the platforms to support the growing demand, and to protect the content from piracy. (to ensure the return on investments). The biggest challenge today is how to piece all the different technologies together in a cost-efficient way while ensuring the highest quality experience is provided to consumers. The Alliance can be the forum to coordinate and collaborate in aligning these different technologies to continue to support the success of video streaming platforms and provide the best consumer viewing experience without breaking the bank.

How Does an Organization Like the SVTA Bring Value to the Industry?

Bringing together a like-minded group of thought-leaders from across the video ecosystem to discuss piracy and other important issues facing our industry is priceless. The challenges we face in the streaming space group continuously evolve. Piracy is becoming more sophisticated and the economic rewards are increasing. On the other hand, new technologies and consumer needs emerge. An organization like the Alliance provides a forum where these new challenges and opportunities can be discussed openly so that smart solutions can be developed to continue to make streaming video better.
