Why Did Qualabs Join the Streaming Video Technology Alliance?

We joined the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA) because collaboration is at the core of our mission. SVTA provides a unique platform for us to connect and collaborate with a diverse group of companies spanning the entire streaming video value chain. By joining the SVTA, we can work together with industry leaders, content providers, technology vendors, and service providers to collectively address the critical challenges facing online video.

The SVTA’s focus on influencing the creation of online video standards aligns perfectly with our goals. While the SVTA itself may not be a standards body, it actively collaborates with established industry organizations. As an SVTA member, we can contribute our insights, expertise and perspectives to ensure that the standards reflect the latest advancements in video technology. This collaboration empowers us to have a significant impact on the future direction of the streaming video industry.

Moreover, the SVTA’s Working Groups allow us to contribute and access best practices, specifications and requirements. By actively participating in these groups, we can learn from industry leaders, share our own expertise, and collectively develop documentation that addresses critical challenges. This knowledge exchange helps us enhance the video technology software solutions we build for our clients and stay ahead of the rapidly evolving streaming video landscape.

What Do You Believe is the Biggest Technical Challenge Facing the Streaming Video Industry the SVTA Can Help Address?

I believe the biggest technical challenge facing the streaming video industry is to meet the business needs: achieve profitability.

While technology has advanced rapidly in this field, real differentiation does not solely lie in technical aspects, as they have become commonplace in the industry.

One possible solution to address this challenge is the swift implementation of standards. By really implementing these standards, greater interoperability can be achieved among different streaming services and vendors, thereby reducing the development costs of specific solutions for common problems. This would enable streaming companies to focus on innovation rather than investing resources in reinventing the wheel.

Furthermore, the implementation of standards can facilitate collaboration and cooperation among different stakeholders in the streaming video industry. This could foster joint innovation and the resolution of shared problems, benefiting all participants and contributing to the sustainable growth of the industry.

How Does an Organization Like the SVTA Bring Value to the Industry?

In our opinion, the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA) brings value to the video industry by fostering collaboration and networking, influencing industry standards, and its implementation, knowledge sharing and education.

It serves as a place to collectively address key industry challenges and drive innovation.
