Why Did Quanteec Join the Streaming Video Technology Alliance?

Quanteec joined the Alliance in 2025 as a Grant Member. The company works on optimized video delivery technologies and, since the beginning, has been trying to shift and rethink the paradigm of video delivery by making it more scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable. In the constantly evolving landscape of OTT streaming, our products, and especially our client-side P2P plugin, have to interact and be compatible with a lot of innovative technologies such as low latency, CMCD, CMSD, and Ad Insertion. Joining the SVTA was a clear choice to exchange with other professionals on these technologies, share our visions, products, and results with the streaming community, and contribute to the definition of innovative streaming solutions.

What Do You Believe is the Biggest Technical Challenge Facing the Streaming Video Industry the SVTA Can Help Address?

The industry seems to be facing several major challenges today. One of them is the growing demand for resources. More and more users seem to switch from the traditional broadcast TV to OTT platforms. At the same time, new bandwidth-heavy formats and use cases emerge (4K, 8K, UHD, immersive videos, metaverse, etc.). The streaming systems require more bandwidth to serve both the expanding audience and the new applications. Hence, CDNs need to increase their capacity to deliver more data while keeping their prices low in a competitive business. However, in today’s industry, new resources are typically committed to trendy AI projects. That is why the streaming industry is investigating or reconsidering alternative delivery systems, such as multicast-ABR or P2P to relieve pressure on cache servers, as well as Open Caching to share underutilized edge capacity. Another important challenge is the plurality of devices and technology. The last few years have seen the rise of various devices, with different OSs, CPU architectures, and languages, to consume video. Now, with the profusion of smart TVs, OTT set-top boxes, smartphones, and gaming systems, technology providers must maintain web platforms, multiple apps, multiple video formats, low-latency protocols, and ad insertion techniques for a wider range of devices. Initiatives like the Common Media Library can help tackle this challenge.

How Does an Organization Like the SVTA Bring Value to the Industry?

The SVTA offers value by allowing various actors across the industry to sit in the same room, discuss, and coordinate the direction of the innovations. The latter is particularly important to avoid the multiplication of custom solutions for the final users and maintain homogeneity in the streaming landscape. The Alliance offers all the tools to organize efficient meetings and supports the creation of new groups when the demand is growing. Moreover, with the Membership Grant Program, the SVTA offers a special place for smaller companies to share their innovative solutions with the industry and exchange with other professionals on a weekly basis. This program is a win-win opportunity for both the smaller teams to share their results and for the main actors to gain knowledge of the works carried out by more flexible startups.
