- What is the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA)?
What We Do
The Streaming Video Technology Alliance is the international technical association focusing on developing documents and software code that improve interoperability within the streaming video technology stack and better ensure high-quality video at scale.
It’s important to understand that the SVTA, at the current time, is not a standards body. To stay nimble and agile in an ever-changing industry, the SVTA has opted to work with existing industry organizations (like the CTA). Using the output from our Working Groups (and the combined expertise of our member base), we can influence the creation of online video standards.
How We Work
Like other technical organizations like IETF, SCTE, and DVB, the SVTA has established Working and Study Groups targeting key problems. Whether it’s Open Caching or Measurement/Quality of Experience (QoE), the SVTA’s member companies come together in quarterly face-to-face meetings and regular phone calls to complete their best practices, specifications, guidelines, and even software code.
About Our Members
The SVTA member body spans the entire streaming video ecosystem. We generally classify our members into a few distinct categories. First, we have Network Operators, like Comcast and Verizon in the U.S., Orange in France, Telefonica in Spain, and more. Second, we have Service Providers, such as the many CDNs including Akamai, Fastly, Qwilt, and CDN77 as well as engineering companies like Qualabs and Eyevinn Technologies. Third, we have Content Owners or Streaming Operators such as Netflix, Paramount, Disney, DAZN, and others. And finally, we have Technology Vendors which include both large companies, like Cisco and Harmonic, as well as smaller companies and even a host of startups!
You won’t find another industry organization representing more diversity from within the ecosystem. We pride ourselves on bringing together some of the brightest minds in streaming video. If this sounds like membership might be right for your company, give us a shout or find out more information about joining the SVTA.
