Why Did IdeaNova Technologies Join the Streaming Video Technology Alliance?

One of the key reasons we joined SVTA was to participate in discussions around Open Caching, an area in which SVTA plays a dominant role. Since joining we’ve been excited to learn of the many other working groups organized by SVTA that are relevant to us. For example, security of all aspects of streaming media, initiatives around player development, and standardization of various open-sourced player platforms. It’s great to be surrounded by people who want to learn from each other and advance this industry.

What Do You Believe is the Biggest Technical Challenge Facing the Streaming Video Industry the SVTA Can Help Address?

Fractionalization – if that’s even a word. It seems that anytime we make a conscious, unified decision to come up with a standard approach there is either a fraction of the industry, or large corporation or another standard body that deviates from it. A lot of human capital and computation energy could be saved if we could agree on a common approach.

How Does an Organization Like the SVTA Bring Value to the Industry?

By setting up specs that can be leveraged across many factions of our industry and by bringing people of common interest together. We especially value the in-person meetings organized three times per year. The organizers do a great job picking the venue and making the meetings both educational and entertaining. We plan on participating in as many events as possible.
