Webinar Recording
Topics Covered
- Edge. Fog. Mist. What is the “edge”? How pervasive are edge resources today?
- What does the edge look like? Is it data centers of servers or is it containerized microservices?
- What are some of the edge use cases that apply to video streaming? What works best there?
- What is the relationship between edge functionality and latency? Does having more streaming resources at the edge reduce latency?
- Is it possible to give the edge some autonomy? Could AI and ML be employed to automate activities based on certain parameters, like data received from a player?
- Given that the edge closest to viewers is often contained in operator networks (ISPs), how can content owners and service providers (like CDNs) work with operators to deploy streaming resources within their networks to improve the viewer experience?
- How will the deployment of 5G impact the importance of edge resources?
- Is there an opportunity to push the edge even further towards the viewer? P2P helped do that with delivery, pushing it into the home. Could the future of the edge be there too on connected devices, on the computer (in the player), or even on a mobile device?
- Can you give some thoughts on the future of streaming? What role will the edge play in the streaming experience over the next couple of years?
