Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 10:00am (PT)

Open caching is gaining traction. In 2020, Cisco and Qwilt announced a partnership to bring Open Caching to British Telecom’s network edge for improved streaming experience; and Disney+ began testing production traffic on Open Caching nodes in Verizon’s network. In this webinar, we will talk about the current state of Open Caching. From published specs to upcoming documents to LABS projects and open source code, attendees will get a clear idea of what it takes to implement Open Caching nodes and what the future holds.

Topics Covered

  1. What are the goals and objectives of Open Caching? Why now?
  2. What is the state of the documentation? Can someone grab what’s there and build everything they need or would they have to do some heavy lifting to implement a solution?
  3. Where are we today with Open Caching implementation? Have many operators embraced it?
  4. Are there plans to extend Open Caching to existing infrastructure, such as NGINX or consumer NAS? What is the strategy for folding in established storage or delivery technologies within the Open Caching Network?
  5. LABS was created to codify Open Caching specifications. What’s the status on building reference code and making it available?
  6. Once code is made public, how will the Alliance handle forking and public (non-member) contributions? Have you identified a process for assessing and incorporating modifications?
  7. What are some of the upcoming initiatives and projects? Will we see another PoC?
  8. Are there any plans to update current specifications to address new approaches and/or technologies?
  9. For the operators who have implemented Open Caching, what is the data showing?
