  • Video Caching Best Practices (February)

Friday, February 28, 2020 at 10:00am (PT)

Caching is a critical element of the streaming video delivery infrastructure. By storing objects as close to the viewer as possible, you can reduce round-trip times, cut bandwidth costs, and create a more efficient delivery chain. But did you know that not all caches are created equal? By connecting your caching infrastructure to the Open Caching Network, you can optimize your video delivery by interconnecting with other nodes and providers. In this webinar, we’ll explore the architecture of Open Caching, how the caching nodes are built, optimizing different caching solutions, connecting a cache to the Open Caching Network, and how bettering your cache performance and interoperability can improve your overall viewer experience.

Webinar Recording

Topics Covered

  1. What is a cache and how does it work?
  2. What are some of the data points to collect from a cache which can help to measure its effectiveness and optimize it?
  3. What are some of the configuration settings that can lead to a more efficient cache?
  4. Does a caching strategy change for different kinds of networks?
  5. What are some strategies for managing caches across multiple networks? How can a video distributor purge objects simultaneously from caches in different CDNs?
  6. What special considerations need to be made for caching in mobile networks?
  7. What is the vision for Open Caching? How can it improve caching? What is the value it provides to content delivery?
  8. What is the state of Open Caching? What specs are being developed?
  9. Can you talk about the relationship between Open Caching and CDNi?
  10. What’s next for caching? Are there innovations on the horizon? Does edge compute play a role?
