UHDF Merger Complete

UHDF will now be the UHDF Working Group; Low Latency Survey Streaming Report released

Fremont, Calif.December 18, 2025Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA), the international technical association developing solutions to address critical technical challenges in delivering a high-quality, secure video experience at scale, has completed the merger with the Ultra High Definition Forum (UHDF) which was announced at IBC 2025. The official closing date was December 1, 2025.

“We are excited to welcome the UHDF into the SVTA family,” says Jason Thibeault, CEO of SVTA. “As we wrote in a blog post earlier this year, this is a great opportunity to align upstream decisions about content with the streaming technology stack, bringing together the two sides of the video experience which are often disconnected. The new UHDF Working Group will be actively working with other SVTA groups, such as Encoding and Packaging, to identify areas of alignment even as the new group pursues specification work on UHD content.”

While there were many existing UHDF members who were also SVTA members, we do want to welcome the following companies into the SVTA membership as part of the merger:

  • cutz
  • DTG
  • Hexaglobe Group
  • LG
  • Pixop
  • ROSS Video
  • TCL
  • travelxp
  • Xperi

Low Latency Streaming Survey Report

Over the course of several months this year, the Low Latency Streaming Working Group fielded a survey with the objective of capturing what the industry thinks of Low Latency Streaming. This survey covered a number of topics including protocols being used, perceived benefits of low latency, and what low latency means (in terms of a number) to these companies. Respondents were from a broad cross-section of the industry representing pure-play streaming platforms (large and small), technology vendors, and network operators (who are also providing streaming services).

The report can be downloaded for free here: https://www.svta.org/document/svta7111-low-latency-survey-report-directional-insights/

In addition, we published an executive summary blog post which highlights some of the top salient points from the survey analysis. The blog post can be accessed here: https://www.svta.org/2025/12/17/gaining-a-consensus-on-latency-in-streaming-video/
