Overview
The SVTA Encoding and Packaging Working Group explores and publishes best practices for the encoding and packaging of streaming video content. This can include, but isn’t limited to, profile specifications and encoder/packager configuration settings.
Objectives
The group has the following objectives:
- Identify encoding and packaging use cases such as context-aware encoding, DASH/HLS compatibility, just-in-time transpackaging, multi-codec operation, and explain how those use cases can affect content output
- Identify best practices for encoding and packaging that relate to specific use cases
- Identify best practices for optimization of specific encoding workflows (such as live linear)
- Document and publish best practices
- Identification of use cases and methodologies for encoding and packaging
- Documentation of encoding and packaging best practices related to the use cases
- Working jointly with other WG’s (low latency, advertisement, etc.) to identify and incorporate practices in their respective domains
- Recommendation of specific encoding/packaging vendors
- Recommendation of specific encoding/packaging technology
