Sixty-three matches in 30 days. Hundreds of TBs of raw log data ingested. Hundreds of thousands of queries from DAZN users. Those astronomical numbers are what went into running observability during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
To deliver a flawless viewing experience of any major live streaming event, speed and data fidelity are critical. That’s why DAZN partnered with Hydrolix, the streaming data lake company for the largest live streaming events such as the Super Bowl, ICC Cricket World Cup and Olympics. DAZN used Hydrolix to identify streaming and ad performance issues in seconds, so that they could fix them before users were impacted.
This Q&A session will feature an interview by Hydrolix Partner Manager Rory McVicar with DAZN Distribution Engineer Manager Aniello Veneruso discussing what it took to run the FIFA Club World Cup from preparation to game time to final trophy life.

Piracy is not a distant threat – it’s a multi-billion dollar problem. Global piracy rates are climbing year-on-year. Join experts as they outline emerging threats and explore the latest anti-piracy technologies and techniques. Discussion will cover advanced DRM, intelligent watermarking, high-frequency key rotation, unified security strategies, C2PA and the need for tight integration between security functions and video player technology. Hear how a strong, holistic approach can flip the script, protecting content and streams to ensure excellent viewer experience and safeguard the industry’s future.

This high-level review of key challenges facing online video platforms will explore the opportunities for online video services to stand out in the increasingly crowded and complex media landscape by creating better viewing experiences through improvements in content discovery, personalization that respects privacy, and new monetisation models.
Panelists will also address the critical challenges of engaging the mobile-first digital natives of Gen Z – the audience of the future – with their preference for TikTok, YouTube and Twitch over traditional broadcast and the threat to revenues and operating expenses of digital piracy.

In this session two very different approaches to improving streamed content delivery are presented.
The first utilises QUIC over http combined with server side controlled ABR (adaptive bit rate) pacing to mitigate the bursty nature of contemporary streaming techniques to reduce delivery latency. Compelling experimental results are presented.
The second presents CMMF (Coded Multisource Media Format) a protocol agnostic container format that enables efficient, decentralized multi-source, multi-path, and multi-access content delivery for services requiring high availability and robustness but also have strict latency and bandwidth requirements. Comprehensive and impressive field trial results are also presented.

Jonathan will join executives from Tencent Cloud and Brightcove to discuss how media companies are evolving into connected ecosystems, embracing short-form video, AI-driven personalization, and agile monetization strategies.

High-efficiency video encoding at scale doesn’t have to mean high cost or complexity. In this session, we’ll walk you through real-life projects to reveal how we matched the right hardware form to the right function to help clients optimise live and on-demand video workflows.

While Europe has yet to build a homegrown streamer with the scale to compete with global giants, there are many innovative content, advertising and technology companies super serving local audiences. As the streaming industry becomes an essential part of daily life, Europe’s digital sovereignty and the continent’s ability to control its own digital infrastructure is more relevant than ever.
This panel brings together leaders from European streaming companies to explore how shared infrastructure, strategic alignment, and cross-market collaboration are unlocking the scale, stability, and innovation required to compete globally. The session will also share the latest research from the European FAST4EU consortium on the state of FAST and AVOD in Europe today.

There is great potential in using AI to customise or curate the content that is delivered to viewers, perhaps to ensure that it is from a trustworthy source or perhaps to give it a degree of personalisation. In this session we explore two ambitious and novel approaches to these concepts. In the first, the EBU calls upon the news content resources of its numerous, widely distributed, high quality and trustworthy public service members to build a multilingual news chatbot. This huge undertaking, which already allows EBU journalists to explore a vast multilingual database, will be discussed in detail together with a performance evaluation and plans for future enhancements.
Broadcasters in Japan and Korea are using AI-assisted workflows to create video productions by the intelligent cropping and editing of items from 8k source material. A typical application (the ‘Fancam’) is to allow fans to follow just their chosen performer in a music concert. An AI-based tool has been developed which can identify views and simultaneously create many such streams. Join us to see it in action.

Allyship is a continuous commitment requiring courage, intentionality, and situational awareness in the workplace. It is a journey, not a destination. Join WSM Allies and members as they share authentic stories about why they embraced allyship, the challenges they faced, and the real impact of their actions. This panel explores different types of allies, highlights the importance of situational awareness, and offers practical advice for anyone ready to begin or deepen their allyship journey. Gain valuable insights on how to be an effective ally and drive inclusive change within your organization and the streaming media industry.

Join us for an exclusive panel discussion featuring technology leaders from Reuters, BBC and Sky as they explore the transformation of modern news and sport workflows. These industry pioneers will share insights on how cloud-native, open, and interoperable approaches are revolutionising production and distribution across news and sport. The session will explore the challenges these organisations face, their collaborative efforts with AWS, and the opportunities emerging from this technological shift. Learn how innovative solutions are enabling content to move from camera to global publication in seconds rather than hours, whilst also driving greater flexibility across a range of use cases. This thought-provoking discussion will showcase leading broadcasters and news agencies who are reshaping the future of news and sport through cloud-native technologies and strategic collaboration.

Video is at the heart of our industry and this three-paper session presents impressive and compelling technical advances spanning encoding, AR/VR/XR and immersivity.
Our first paper uses subjective expert assessments of Just-Noticeable-Differences (JND) in streaming video encoding to train a deep learning model. Results from using that model show impressive bit-rate savings can be achieved.
Our second paper introduces ARF – the Avatar Representation Format, an MPEG activity currently at committee draft. The goal of ARF is to offer an interoperable exchange format for the storage, carriage, and animation of 3D avatars. A technical overview and illustration of ARF is provided along with a discussion of its integration in to a mobile communications system.
Our final paper presents a truly impressive 30K horizontal resolution 360-degree camera system and 15K hemispherical display. The technical design and challenges of the camera, lenses and capture system are shared.

Through Amazon Prime Video, DAZN, ESPN+ and, more recently, Netflix streamers are increasingly challenging traditional broadcasters for live sport rights. This panel will share insights into how streaming platforms need to evolve to satisfy the demand for high-quality, scalable and personalised sports viewing experiences. While interactive fan engagement features such as multiview, gamification and live betting are facilitated by online delivered online, can it be made easier for the fan to find their favourite sports, and related shoulder content, in this increasingly fragmented market?

The all-IP environment of digital media provides fertile ground for innovation. In this session three companies will share examples of how OTT operators can apply technologies and capabilities to the end-to-end delivery of services over unmanaged networks to improve the economics, performance or resilience of streaming.
Private CDNs are being adopted to give broadcasters and OTT providers more control over their delivery workflows. Varnish Software will share strategies for extending delivery infrastructure with edge compute.
CDNetworks will outline how AI technologies can be used for optimizing video quality, minimizing latency, and ensuring smooth playback across a range of devices and networks.
Norsk will introduce Common Media Server Data (CMSD) which has the potential to optimize bandwidth utilization and enhance load balancing across distributed networks as services scale globally through intelligent signal management.
